Ultimately while I would prefer a perfect product I appreciate a company that does respond and work through any issues I have. I cannot speak about ross support but I hear fantastic things. I have found bugs but those are worked on as reported and often I get a beta to test out fairly soon.

I have had the software lock up on me early in the software but that is not something i have experienced in the revisions over the last year.

I personally use a TC1 for small productions and imag and windows is not something that crashes for me. I am not sure if you lose features from the clip store however. I haven't gotten to use one yet but they say that even if windows crashes, you can keep keep switching the show. The graphite will get a pass as its the switching is supposed to be operating entirely on the expansion card. Well, a ton of people will let you know what they think of using a system based on windows. Otherwise I believe Ross has sales people as well, or you can talk to someone in the discord. If you have questions about pricing and features, talk to your integrator if you have one.

Although some form of xPression is included that I think is probably better than live text.īut once you start breaking stuff out from the Tricaster, like maybe you have Viz or xPression for more full featured real graphics, stuff like the Ross (or even a Grass Korona) become a lot more competitive. Stuff like graphics and a may require extra equipment based on the complexity of your needs. When it comes to price, if you fully utilize the features of the Tricaster, no other product will be able to match in pure features per dollar. Standard GPIO as well as Ross Talk and Dashboard are huge for streamlining your setup, and I know some stadiums have a small staff. With the limited IO of the modern tricasters, NDI latency also comes into play if you go over more than a couple cameras.Ĭarbonite will also open you up to a whole host of other integration with other equipment. Keeping this latency to a minimum is especially important when your signal also hits a video board and LED processor before being displayed. While I haven’t specifically texted the Tricaster, the lip sync issues are noticeable to me even just displaying on a broadcast monitor, and I would guess it’s probably adding at least 3-4 frames of latency on the SDI inputs. They also tend to have great support from what I understand (beyond the standard help methods they have multiple people active in the discord for the sub ready to answer help questions or just general questions about operation).įor in stadium video boards, a Carbonite will only add a line or two of latency to the video if the cameras are genlocked, or a little over 1 frame if they are not. The switcher itself is 100% hardware based, and absolutely rock solid. Ross falls in line with the other bigger brands that are used in “real” productions like Grass, Sony etc. Nothing against people who use them a ton, but I’ve noticed a lot of people who work mainly on them seem to brush the issues off as normal. OTOH if you are selling sponsored elements based on things running from the switcher it functioning perfectly every time may very well be worth the money. Im a stadium if there is another control system between you and the boards, you may not consider this a big deal if you can just dump to a graphic when issues arise.

It’s also not uncommon to see freezes, glitches, significant panel lag (press a button and the action takes sometimes multiple seconds to happen). When you are using a Tricaster, the question is always when it will crash, not if.
